Guide
Buying memorabilia safely
Most memorabilia is genuine, but signatures are easy to fake. A few checks go a long way.
Ask for proof
- A certificate of authenticity from a known company.
- Photos or video of the signing.
- Where and when it was signed or worn.
Check the details
Compare the signature with known examples, and check the shirt or item matches the year and team it's meant to be from.
Paying and shipping
Agree how you'll pay and how it will be sent. For valuable items, ask for tracked and insured shipping, or collect in person.
Step by step
- Find an item. Search or browse by sport.
- Contact the seller. Use the phone or email on the listing.
- Check it's genuine. Ask for the certificate, photos and where it came from.
- Pay and collect. Agree payment and shipping or pick-up with the seller.
Staying safe
- Talk to the seller by phone, not just email, before you pay.
- Never pay by gift card, crypto or a money transfer app to someone you haven't met.
- Be wary of a price that's far too good, or a seller who rushes you.
- Ask for proof of authenticity before you pay, and check any certificate with the company that issued it.
